The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit No. 293 of Nirmala College of Arts and Science, Meloor, was officially sanctioned by the University of Calicut on 17th December 2020 as a self-financed unit under the title NSS SF04. In recognition of the consistent efforts and the growing impact of the unit, it was later upgraded to a funded unit and renamed as NSS Unit No. 293. The seeds of this noble initiative were sown through the college’s Social Club, which actively engaged in various outreach activities, inspiring the formal establishment of the NSS.
Since its inception, NSS Unit 293 has been dedicated to promoting social awareness and community welfare through dynamic extension activities in the adopted villages of Meloor, Muringoor Vadakumuri, Chalakudy, Koratty, and Pariyaram. These programs have addressed a range of issues including health, hygiene, environment, education, and social justice, with the collaboration of local government bodies and resource persons from various departments. The unit strives to bridge the gap between the college and the community by fostering a culture of compassion, responsibility, and civic consciousness among the student volunteers.
Through regular camps, awareness drives, skill development sessions, and sustainable initiatives, NSS Unit 293 aims at empowering both students and the community. The unit not only acts as a platform for social action but also plays a pivotal role in nurturing leadership qualities, teamwork, and ethical values among its members. It continues to uphold the NSS motto "Not Me, But You", promoting selfless service as the foundation for personal and societal growth.
